August 23, 2007Has anyone else had antilock brake issues? I got my Frontier in February and drove from Seattle to Indianapolis, then to Lansing, MI, Baltimore, Boston and back to Atlantic City. Almost the entire way in the snow wind and ice. No obvious problems with the brakes. I get back to Washington State the end of May and go stompin around in the mountains and found out that the antilock brakes think they know more than the operator of the vehicle. I went climbing up the old roads through the brush and snow, scratching the paint down both sides of the truck until I get stopped by snow that is too deep on a narrow path. I back down the steep grade in low 4WD and have to brake because of the incline. What happened then was a big surprise. The brakes went into "panic" mode and basically put me into a free slide down the road through the trees without a prayer of stopping. I didn't know at the time that it was actually the brakes. I thought maybe I just hit a slick patch in the mud and snow and caught a branch in my spokes. I had heard a loud clattering noise from the front drivers side around the front wheel... I thought...
Later, I had done quite a climb up a power line road through mud and snow and was now returning to the highway, 1600 feet below. Going down about a 20% incline... it happened again. Only this time I was going forward in low 4WD in 1st gear. I started down the slope at about 5 mph or so. The antilock brakes again went into panic mode due to the incline, the wheels slipping differentially on the loose surface and the weight or momentum that the stupid truck was sensing. About 150 feet later, after accelerating to about 25 mph, with brakes fully to the floor, I finally came to a stop... obviously due to the fact that I was at the bottom of the incline. That is not cool at all. I did not panic, the truck did. I was just pissed off.
I have over 100,000 off road miles in that area and I have never had a truck do this to me.
The dealership has now check the thing three times... no error codes they say.
A few weeks later I am pulling up in front of my house. I have done this for years with great success. It is not hard to do. I put on my brakes at about 5 mph, a tire slips on some gravel (I guess) and the brakes again go into panic mode. I quickly steered back out into the street and finally came to a stop. Out my drivers window, I could reach out and touch the back of my neighbors Dodge Ram. Again I was pissed.
Nissan has no explanation.
Anybody else having break issues with their 07?
